MP Series 67: Designed for Main Battery Disconnect Applications

Same Series 67. Bigger job.

MP Series 67 models 672 and 674 are now validated to an interrupt capacity of 5000 A @ 28 VDC. With that rating, they're designed for main battery disconnect applications.

Series 67 is our small-frame battery selector/disconnect switch with an integrated circuit breaker. Until now, most customers have used it for auxiliary circuits like windlass or trolling motors and accessory loads. The new rating means it can do more: switching and protecting the main battery circuit in a single compact unit.

Why it matters: main vs. auxiliary

A main battery disconnect has a harder job than an auxiliary switch. It sits between the battery bank and the rest of the electrical system, so it has to safely interrupt the full fault current a battery can deliver.

At 5000 A @ 28 VDC, the 672 and 674 have the headroom for that job. Builders and upfitters can now use one compact switch, with circuit protection built in, for the main disconnect, not just for the windlass, trolling motor or accessory circuit.

The product didn't change. Our testing did.

Nothing about the Series 67 design has changed. What's new is our ability to prove what it can do.

We recently built a new test lab that can test to higher ratings than ever before. We're putting it to work on designs our customers already know and trust, validating higher ratings on existing products.

Series 67 is the first to benefit:

  1. Earlier this year, we raised the Series 67 maximum voltage rating from 32 VDC to 42 VDC.
  2. Now, models 672 and 674 are validated to 5000 A @ 28 VDC interrupt capacity.

Same switch, same footprint, same part numbers. Higher validated ratings.

Interrupt capacity ratings by model

Model Configuration 42 VDC 28 VDC 14 VDC
672 Type 2: Single Input ON/OFF (2 position) 1500 A 5000 A —
673 Type 3: Dual Plus with Combine (3 position) 1500 A — 3000 A
674 Type 4: Dual Input (4 position) 1500 A 5000 A —

In every configuration, the ACC ("House") circuit is always protected by the integrated breaker.

Everything Series 67 is known for

The higher ratings come in the same compact, rugged package:

  • Integrated circuit breaker with manual Push-Reset and ON/OFF function
  • Ignition protected to UL1500 / SAE J1171
  • IP66 weatherproof (IEC 60529)
  • Panel or surface mount, fitting most industry-standard battery switch cutout patterns
  • Plated copper studs for maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance
  • One-piece terminal stud design that never loosens over time; 3/8" (M10) studs accept multiple cable terminals
  • Tactile indicator that conveys knob position by feel; lockout feature available
  • Standard amp ratings from 30 to 150 A
  • Switch ratings: 300 A continuous, 500 A intermittent (5 min.), 900 A crank (30 sec.)
  • Operating range of -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F)
  • Patented (US 12,417,889) and made in the USA

Built for the vehicles you build

Series 67 is suited for Marine, Truck, Bus, RV, Con-Ag and Commercial vehicle applications. With the 672 and 674 now designed for main battery disconnect applications, one product line covers both the main disconnect and the auxiliary circuits.

This is just the start. Our new lab lets us keep validating higher ratings on the products you already rely on, and we'll share each one as it's complete.

The updated Series 67 datasheet (QC-4017-F) is available at MP S67 Datasheet. For application support or samples, contact your MechProd rep or email helpme@mechprod.com.
